Though disappointed that life as a mermaid wasn't in the cards for her, Katherine Eddinger Smits obtained a master’s degree in social work and spent 20 years helping veterans and their families until she retired to pursue her obsession with writing.
Now she brings social work training and experience to her stories of mermaids, mages and magical creatures. Within the context of fantasy and romance, her novels explore real-life issues of self-acceptance, body image, relationship dynamics, and fears and phobias. Mystery, suspense, and a little sex add spice to her books.
She is the author of five novels where romance collides with supernatural suspense.
Katherine has been a judge for several years for the Florida Writers Association Collections contest. In 2021 she also judged the FWA Royal Palm Literary Awards and is judging again in 2022.
Katherine served as a guide for the Romance Writers of America inaugural 2021/2022 Pen to Paper program which mentors aspiring writers.
She also free-lance edits, contributes to numerous blogs and publishes her own blog: Word Siren katherinesmits.wordpress.com/
Katherine and her husband divide their time between Florida and West Virginia. Their children and granddaughters live in Virginia.
Besides writing, Katherine rides dressage, clog dances, and makes her family the center of her life.
