Though disappointed that life as a mermaid wasn't in the cards for her, Katherine Eddinger Smits obtained a master’s degree in social work and spent 20 years helping veterans and their families until she retired to pursue her obsession with writing.
Now she brings social work training and experience to her stories of mermaids, mages, and magical creatures. Within the context of fantasy and romance, her novels explore real-life issues of self-acceptance, relationship dynamics, and phobias. Mystery, suspense, and a little sex add spice to her books.
She is the author of five novels where romance collides with supernatural suspense.
For several years, Katherine judged the Florida Writers Association Collections contest and has also judged the FWA Royal Palm Literary Awards.
Katherine served as a guide for the Romance Writers of America inaugural 2021/2022 Pen to Paper program which mentors aspiring writers. In 2022/2023 she was the Pen to Paper Program Manager and chair of the Unpublished Member Benefits Commitee.
She contributes to numerous blogs and publishes her own blog: Word Siren katherinesmits.wordpress.com/
Katherine and her husband divide their time between Florida and West Virginia. Their children and granddaughters live in Virginia.
Besides writing, Katherine is a "horse mom" to a feisty Irish Sport Horse mare named Corrin Castle, clog dances, and loves the beach.
